Foods that promote hair growth

There are 4 Minerals (Silica, Iodine, Zinc and Iron) and 5 Vitamins (A,B6,C,E and Folic acid) required for hair growth.

Protein: liver, fish, eggs, beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, tofu, chick peas
When choosing food for hair growth, remember that hair is made of protein; therefore protein-rich foods should make up a high percentage of your diet.
Legumes like kidney beans and lentils should be an important part of your hair-care diet. Not only do they provide plentiful protein to promote hair growth, but ample iron, zinc, and biotin.

Iron: liver, whole grain cereals, dark green leafy vegetables(Spinach and Broccoli), dates, raisins
The second most important hair nutrient is iron. Iron is important for the regular repair of your hair and ensures that it is growing properly. According to Natural News, vitamin C assists the body's absorption of iron. Low levels of vitamin C in your body may cause your hair to become dry and split.

Essential Fatty Acids: walnuts, canola oil, fish, soy
Essential omega-3 fatty acids are needed to support scalp health. A deficiency can result in a dry scalp and thus hair, giving it a dull look. Vegetarians can include one or two tablespoons of ground flaxseed in your daily diet for some plant-based omega-3 fats. Walnuts are also a terrific source of zinc, as are cashews, pecans, and almonds. A zinc deficiency can lead to hair shedding, so make sure nuts are a regular on your healthy hair menu.

B Vitamins: eggs, meat, poultry(chicken and Turkey)
Eggs also contain biotin and vitamin B-12, which are important beauty nutrients. Chickens and turkeys - the high-quality protein they provide will help give you the healthy hair you crave

Vitamin E: Corn, avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil
This vitamin is important for protecting your hair from damage causing substances called free radicals.     Vitamin E builds capillaries in the body and improves the flow of blood in your scalp, resulting in an increase in hair growth. Also, vitamin E can be used to help cure dry hair and treat hair that has been damaged due to excessive use of hair dryers and curlers.

Beta-carotene: carrots, kale, spinach, turnip greens, winter squash and yams
This is essential for hair growth, and can be found in green, yellow and orange vegetables. Beta-carotene also is an antioxidant and provides vitamin A.
