Kollu Masiyal/ Horse gram masiyal

Seasoning:
Mustard – ½ tea spoon
Urad dal – ½ tea spoon
Curry leaves – few
Hing – pinch

Fry and Grind:
Pearl onion -6
Coriander seeds – 1 table spoon
Cumin seeds – 1 tea spoon
Red chilli – 10 round ones
Garlic – 6 cloves

Other Ingredients:

Onion chopped - 1medium
Tomato chopped - 1 medium
Tamarind - 1 lemon size
Salt - as per taste
Cilantro for garnishing

Method:
  • Pressure cook the Horse gram with turmeric for 3 whistles.
  • Drain the water and keep it for Kollu rasam.
  • Mash the cooked dal or grind it coarsely without water.
  • Fry and grind the items mentioned above.
  • Heat oil in a pan, Add all seasoning items.
  • Fry onions till brown color. Then add tomatoes and salt.
  • When tomatoes are done, add ground paste, Tamarind extract, Turmeric powder.
  • Add mashed dal. Boil it for few minutes. Garnish with cilantro.
