Seasoning:
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Hing - a pinch
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
Other Ingredients:
Chopped Onion - 1 small
Minced Garlic - 6 pods
Chopped plantain - 1 small
Coconut milk - 3 tsp (optional)
Salt - as per taste
Masala powders:
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp (for medium spicy level)
Mutton masala powder - 1/2 tsp
Method:
- Heat oil in a pan, add all seasoning items listed in the seasoning section.
- Add onion and Garlic. Cook till onion is translucent.
- Then add Chopped Vazhakkai. Cook for 5 mins.
- Add all the masala powders and salt.
- Also add coconut milk if you are using it.
- Vazhakka gives fantastic taste when cooked with coconut milk.
- Add enough water, close the lid and cook till plantain is cooked.
- Dont over cook, then plantains will become mushy. It takes approximately 10 mins to cook. Again based on your size of the plantain chops.
- Serve hot with rice.
